Erik Santos – 12 Best-Selling OPM Artists with Most Number of Platinum Records

12 Best-Selling OPM Artists with Most Number of Platinum Records
October 15, 2015

Music piracy has put a strain on the recording industry but there are Filipino singers who have continued to enjoy strong album sales.

The Philippine Association of the Record Industry, Inc. (PARI) was able to keep track of best-selling artists from the “golden age” of hip-hop in the 1990s to the Pinoy pop and rock scene in 2000s.For the past two decades, OPM artists have produced chart-topping hits one after another. From 1990s to mid-2000s, PARI gave Gold Record Awards to albums with 20,000 units sold, Platinum Record Awards to those who reached 40,000 units sold, and Diamond Record Award to albums that reached 400,000 units sold.

However, album sales went down through the years because of the emergence of piracy and digital downloads.

In 2013, PARI adjusted their standards by giving Gold Record Awards to albums with 7,500 units sold, Platinum Record Awards to albums with 15,000 units sold, and Diamond Record Awards to albums that sold more than 150,000 units.

We have listed down OPM artists who have received multiple platinum and diamond record awards through the years (in no particular order).

This list is based on information published on PARI’s official website.

“Actually, it’s a three-in-one concert.

“Para siyang kape ‘di ba? Three-in-one kasi three concert experience in one siya.

“So, parang the first part would be her [Angeline] first major concert.

“Then, yung second half will be my concert.

“And the last part would be our back-to-back concert.

While Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto consider each other “special,” the two singers insisted that they’re not yet a couple, saying that they would rather take things slow for now.

“We know what we have and are very comfortable with each other’s company. I’m not in a rush and I don’t want to preempt anything,” Angeline said during a press conference for her and Erik’s concert titled “KQ at the Araneta Coliseum” on Aug. 15.

Dubbed the King and Queen of Theme Songs, Angeline Quinto and Erik Santos are gossip fodder anew with wags alleging they’re in a relationship.

mb artikThat the two were being seen together constantly only added fuel to the fire.

The real score? Nothing much, really. Apparently, they’re just friends. Or something.

kq artikTwo of this generation’s highly recognized and established singers come as one in a dream concert that promises to deliver the goods.

Erik Santos and Angeline-Quinto, their shining stars intertwined by virtue of their stellar record as familiar voices to local movie and teleserye theme songs, are joining hands as featured acts in an anticipated major concert on Aug. 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The show, produced by Cornerstone Concerts and simply billed Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto at the Araneta Coliseum is expected to provide a kind of stage spectacle rarely seen by concertgoers. It is also far from being just a simple set but promises to be grand for its “talked about concept” – three concerts, two musical royalties, one night.

Both Erik and Angeline are crowned as this generation’s “King and Queen of Theme Songs,” respectively, with Erik having sung 37 themes to his high-valued name while Angeline scoring 35 so far in her steadily moving music career for teleseryes and films. The numbers are mind-boggling, the effect to music fans, encompassing.

Papal mass, a career highlight for Erik Santos

Papal mass, a career highlight for Erik Santos

MANILA – Kapamilya singer Erik Santos considers his part in Pope Francis’ mass at Luneta Park, which was attended by some 6 million people on Sunday, as the highlight of his decade-long career.

Santos, who rose to fame after winning an ABS-CBN singing competition in 2003, was tapped to sing the responsorial psalm in the concluding mass of the pontiff’s five-day apostolic visit to the Philippines.

The 31-year-old balladeer was accompanied by 1,000 choir members from various dioceses and a 200-member orchestra as he sang Psalm 97.

On Monday, Santos opened the ABS-CBN noontime variety program “It’s Showtime” with a rendition of the devotional song “I Offer My Life,” drawing cheers from the audience.

After his performance, Santos was asked by co-hosts of “It’s Showtime” about his experience singing in the presence of Pope Francis, who left for the Vatican on Monday morning.

“Sobrang overwhelming ‘yung feeling,” Santos said. “I feel so blessed.

When co-host Vice Ganda surmised that Santos must have considered one of the highlights of his career, the singer replied definitively. “Iyon ang pinaka-highlight! Siyempre, I sang for the Lord, for the Pope and for the people talaga.”

Aside from Santos, Kapamilya talents who performed at papal events include Jamie Rivera, Darren Espanto, Lyca Gairanod, Jed Madela and Angeline Quinto.
